EVERYONE’S “WHY” MATTERS
-
Our founder’s WHY is to make the word “ally” actually mean something. In the wake of Ahmaud Arbury and George Floyd’s murders; A2A founder, Courtney Carter didn’t like how the word “ally” was being overused and underutilized. She had a hard time understanding how a word which is meant to be additive, somehow become divisive.
In her discussions with other like spirited individuals of all cultural backgrounds and experiences, she discovered that this reason could be attributed to the fact that many well intentioned people believed “not being racist” was equivalent to being an ally. It became apparent that while everyone fell somewhere on the “anti-racism scale”, their progress to learning was stunted by the paralyzation in “saying the wrong thing.” There was a lot of finger pointing, but no destination where those who considered themselves allies and/or wanted to learn about allyship from diverse backgrounds could have uncomfortable conversations to learn, unlearn and relearn around these charged subjects.
It was then, that Courtney called on an amazing group of like hearted friends, colleagues and peers from various industries to create an excuse free experience and community aimed to “jumpstart” people’s respective anti-racism journeys. Four weeks later, the first Ally2Action 21-Day Program launched and reached over 7,500 people in 15 countries.

I am involved with A2A because I believe in the mission, the platform, and the team. The platform facilitates an “advocate” approach addressing the issue we face as a society.

Because if not me, then who? When Ally2Action was being formed and I got invited to get involved, I said yes pretty much instantly. I learned a long time ago that if you intentionally listen to others, rather than just waiting to respond, you can learn a lot.
